Stay Warm

Stay Warm

We are grateful for your continued and generous support of our Stay Warm Mission Ministry. This year we have 40 children signed up for our Stay Warm school clothing ministry and we are blessed to have this opportunity to share Christ’s love with these children. As we have welcomed many new families to our congregation, we want to share with everyone the details of this important ministry.

Twice a year St. Thomas UMC provides clothing for Anywhere ISD children qualifying under the federal income eligibility child nutrition guidelines. A parent or guardian must complete our ministry participation form and return it by the stated deadline. In August we provide each eligible participant one weeks’ worth of school clothing that includes 5 shirts, 5 of either shorts, pants, jeans or a combination of those, 5 pair of socks, 5 pair of underwear, 1 pair of shoes and 1 backpack. In November we provide a winter coat, gloves, and hat or scarf.

This ministry is one way we are able to share Christ’s love with the children in our community. As you can imagine, new clothing and a backpack can make all the difference in a child’s self-esteem, boost their confidence, and is a perfect way to begin a new school year! While we do not know the particulars of each child’s story, we do know that we are called to share our resources with those in need. Through your generous donations, these children are able to start school with new clothes and a backpack, and enjoy the warmth of a new winter coat, gloves, and hat or scarf.

How can you help? Your participation in this ministry is what makes it successful; here is how you can get involved. You can adopt a child where you do all the shopping for them, you can choose specific items that you would like to purchase for a child, you can make a monetary donation and I will shop for the child, or you can share this information with your friends and family who might be interested in supporting this mission ministry. Though this is a ministry supported by our congregation, it serves our whole community and we welcome anyone who wants to get involved.

As is the tradition here, our congregation will offer a blessing of the clothing during worship on Sunday, November 20, 2016. All are invited to join us for this special service to pray God’s blessing over the Stay Warm coats.
